I’m Lisa, the curious mind and creative energy behind Theory + Chaos.
I didn’t arrive here through a traditional design path. I arrived through curiosity, experimentation, and a tendency to keep pulling at an idea until it becomes something real.
By a bit of creative serendipity, I stumbled across chaos theory and found language for a creative process I had already been following instinctively. The more I explored it, the more I recognized something familiar: the way I follow unexpected connections, let ideas evolve, and trust that even the smallest change can lead the work somewhere entirely new.
What began as a need to create has become a place where ideas can take shape, evolve, and become something their beginnings could never have predicted.

Chaos theory explores how systems governed by rules can still produce outcomes that are remarkably complex and difficult to predict. The smallest shift in where something begins can change everything that follows.
Chaos is not simply disorder. Within the unpredictability are patterns, relationships, and an underlying structure that may only become visible as the system evolves.
That idea sits at the heart of Theory + Chaos. Creativity rarely moves in a straight line. An idea is questioned, disrupted, connected to something unexpected, and allowed to become more than it was at the beginning.
Structure gives an idea direction. Curiosity gives it somewhere new to go.

Theory & Chaos started long before it became a company name. My darling husband, Billy, has always joked that our farm runs on chaos, while “all things in theory” has been one of my signature phrases for years.
Put together, they captured more than an inside joke. They describe the way I create: beginning with an idea, making room for experimentation, and bringing enough structure to the disorder to turn possibility into something real.
